Hudson Super Six Links
I've spent considerable effort searching the Internet for resources related to early Hudson cars. Following are links to web sites that I have found to be particularly useful.
Hudson Super Six Info
-
Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club. This is the national organization for owners of old Hudsons and "sister" vehicles, the Essex and the Terraplane. The site has many links of its own, including links to regional HET clubs that have their own web sites.
-
Hudson Super Six 1916-1929 Discussion List This is the definitive resource for information related to restoration and operation of old (pre-1930) Hudson and Essex cars. Anyone can read the postings, but to participate in the discussion, you must join the list, which in turn means you must create a Yahoo account for yourself if you don't have one. It's all free. Special credit goes to list moderator Paul O'Neil, who owns four old Hudsons.
-
The Hudson Motor Car Company. This site, created by Alex Burr, contains an extraordinary collection of information about Hudson cars, ranging from the pre-'30s Super Sixes through the Terraplanes in the '30s up to the "stepdown" sedans produced by Hudson in the 50s. Many photos of Hudson cars, data on production and vehicle identification numbers, and more. It's sites like this that make the World Wide Web such a wonderful resource.
-
Hudson, Essex & Terraplane Bulletin Board (Forum) Jon Battle has set up a Bulletin Board (Forum) and Chat Room for those with Hudson-Essex-Terraplane interests. It's not specific to the Hudson Super Six era , but does include it. Anyone can browse any portion of the site except the Chat section, which requires (free) MicroSoft Network (MSN) membership. To participate in the Chat or Bulletin Board, you have to register with MSN. Also, the Chat function on MSN only supports users with Windows 95 or later and the Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later, or Netscape Navigator 4.X or later, browser.
-
Hudson Super Six Online Library. This site contains PDF images of several valuable documents for owners of old Hudsons, including instructions to maintain the Marvel carburetor and the Stewart Vacuum Tank, and color specifications for 1929 and 1930 Hudson and Essex cars.
-
Hudson Tech Tips Index. Vernon Holt has compiled a comprehensive index of technically-focused articles in the White Triangle News
(official publication of the H-E-T Club) and other relevant publications.
-
Hudson Classified Ads. Hudson owners Dave and Mitzi Sollon maintain an extensive listing of classified ads for Hudsons of all vintages.
-
Hemmings Motor News Classified Ads. This link is pre-set to search the Hemmings classified ads for all Hudson cars in the U.S. and Canada.
- Carestoration: The Car Restoration home page.
-
Auto Restorer On-Line: The home page for Auto Restorer On-Line.
-
AutoLinkage: Memorabilia, car clubs, resources, classified ads, events, and more.
Hudson History
-
A Websurfer's Guide to the Hudson. Site author Jon Battle provides a brief look at the history of Hudson vehicles, and a nice assortment of photos of Hudsons through the years.
-
Hudson -- solid engineering, performance and value. A nice summary of Hudson history by free-lancer Richard A. Wright, published on the web site of the Detroit News. One factual error: Wright says Hudson was making cars with eight-cylinder engines in the late 20s. Actually, Hudson didn't introduce its Great Eight engine until the 1930 model year.
Vendors
-
Intercity Lines, Inc. If you buy an old car from a distant location, you need to get it moved. These people did a great job hauling our Town Sedan from Raymond, WA, to Pasadena, CA.
-
Ficken Wiper Service specializes in rebuilding Trico vacuum wiper motors, which were used on Hudsons and most other cars through 1950s. They charge a flat fee of $59 to rebuild a Super Six era vacuum motor, and also sells wiper arms and blades. If you're old enough to have driven or ridden in an older car with a vacuum wiper motor, you know that they don't work very well when the engine is pulling hard. However, replacement with an electric motor isn't a good option on Super Six Hudsons. The motor is mounted in a very small space above the windshield, and there just isn't room for an electric motor.
-
POR15 Home Page: The ultimate in protection for bare metal. Hudson restorers just rave about this product, which stops rust dead in its tracks.
-
Hagerty Classic Insurance: Home page for one of the major classic car insurance provider. You wouldn't believe how cheap it is to insure these old cars! Our policy (with another provider) is $75 a year with $0 deductible and full replacement cost. I guess old cars must be good risks.

Y 'n' Z Yesterday's Parts has been making top-quality replica wiring harnesses for old cars for three decades. They used the harness from a 1929 Town Sedan as a template for the harness they offer for 1929 Super Six Hudsons. Very nice workmanship, and the wires look exactly like the originals.
