The mid-to-late-20s Hudson Super Six is a solid, reliable car -- a lot easier to maintain than many other cars of its period (such as the Packard, according to experts who have worked on both). But the Super Six is not without its own quirks and problems. Moreover, the solutions are not always easy or obvious, due mostly to a scarcity of replacement parts, and sometimes to a scarcity of information. (In this respect, the Hudson is less desirable than other cars that were produced in larger quantities, such as the Ford Model A.) Here, I draw on my own limited experience in restoring our 1929 Hudson Town Sedan, and upon the assembled knowledge of many others who have dealt with these common problems. A great resource for anyone restoring or maintaining an old Hudson is the Hudson Super Six 1916-29 discussion group, moderated by Paul O'Neil. Credit for any wisdom that resides on these pages goes to the "old hands" on this discussion list (and elsewhere) who willingly share their knowledge with Hudson newcomers like myself.
Here are recurring problems reported by owners of 1929 (and similar vintage) Hudsons, along with a discussion of techniques, tools and resources to resolve them. I hope this will help other Super Six Hudson owners. As detailed pages are added to the site, the list below will transform into a set of links to other pages.
